Could - Should - Would

 

Could=past of can, conditional verbal auxillary of can

Should= conditional verbal auxillary, had better, ought to

Would=past of will, conditional verbal auxillary of will

 

pattern:

S. + could    + verb   + object.

       should

       would

 

Examples:

 

He could play checkers when he was in 5th grade.

If he could go to the movies he would be happy.

I should go soon.

She should join us if she has time.

She would be the first one at the party.
